3 ways to get the best deal on a car or campervan rental
There are a few tricks to finding a great rental deal
Taking a holiday isn’t cheap these days. Maybe it never was, in spite of our rose-tinted recollections. There’s your accommodation to sort out, then travel expenses, activities, food… it all adds up. If you want to save a few dollars on necessities so that you can treat yourself to some luxuries, there are a few things you might want to know before embarking on your quest for holiday savings. We know a thing or two about renting cars and campervans, and we’d like to share a handful of the tips we’ve discovered over the years.
Flexibility
Maybe you have a very precise idea of how your trip is going to go, down to the last little detail. If that’s the case, good on you! But if you’ve got a little more wiggle room in your plans, you might be able to save quite a bit of money by taking advantage of a deal that isn’t precisely in line with your original plan. Car and campervan deals on rentals come up all the time - some are very generic (40% off if you book in a certain time frame, etc) but others have specific pick up and drop off locations, or tie in with certain activities (e.g. a free day’s ski pass for every day of your hire). These more specific deals are often some of the best out there and if you’re willing to go with the flow a little bit, it’s an easy way to have a cheap holiday - you might even discover incredible places and people you’d never have otherwise encountered!
Research
If you don’t know what’s out there, how can you be sure that you’re getting a decent deal? It seems obvious, but far too many people pick just one provider and settle for whatever they have available. It’s a good idea to take a look at what all the available providers are offering, that way you can assess their pros and cons. Plus, you won’t miss out on a great bargain just because you didn’t look.
Of course, going through every car or campervan rental provider’s website would be a horribly arduous and boring task, but fortunately, you don’t have to. On our site, you can see all the different vehicles and providers available to you at a glance, so comparing and choosing becomes as simple as scrolling.

Forward planning
All the research in the world isn’t going to help you if you try to book a few days before you plan to go away. When it comes to some things, it might be a good idea to wait for last-minute deals to emerge, but that’s not the case for car and motorhome rentals at all. In fact, as time goes on, cheaper options tend to disappear. This doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to find good deals at short notice, but it’s a lot more risky. If you can, look at booking your rental a few months in advance, especially if you’re going away in peak season - that way you’ll be sure to get the pick of the bunch.
